Three Romantic Things to do in Aldeburgh
With the month of love and Valentine’s Day on the horizon, we thought we’d introduce three romantic things to do in our beautiful seaside town.
Sunrise by the Shell…
There is nothing more romantic than watching the sunrise across the stunning Suffolk coastline here in Aldeburgh. Our pebbled beaches provide a haven for couples looking for a wander alongside the gentle waves of the North Sea and are right here on our doorstep at the Brudenell.
As you head a short distance north of the town centre, a unique and sleepy sculpture takes prominence. The ‘Scallop’, a giant four-metre high stainless steel scallop shell has stood tall on the Suffolk coast for just over a decade and is the perfect location to watch the sunrise with your loved one. The sculpture, by Suffolk artist Maggi Hambling, is a tribute to local composer Benjamin Britten pierced with the words, "I hear those voices that will not be drowned", from his opera, Peter Grimes. It is the perfect place to be in the early morning and contemplate the mysterious power of the sea. If you're the early mornings aren't for you, fear not. Our Aldeburgh coastline is equally as beautiful as the sun goes down and with a full moon on the 15th February, there's no better place to be this Valentine's Day.
Many of our hotel guests have been blown away by the beauty of our beaches and we hope you feel the same when you come and stay with us for a short romantic break or weekend away on Suffolk’s famous ‘Sunrise Coast’.
Snuggle up with fish and chips…
Whilst there is an abundance of great places to eat out in Aldeburgh, sometimes there is nothing more satisfying that tucking into a Great British classic snuggled up and sat by the beach. Yes, the beautiful simplicity of fish and chips can be the perfect way to grab a quick bite to eat with your loved one on the Suffolk coast. Located a short distance from the Brudenell you will come across Aldeburgh Fish & Chips, a famous takeaway restaurant renowned for serving up the “best fish and chips in the world”. We recommend you try it out together, cuddled up and overlooking the sea. If you’re staying at the Brudenell, make sure you ask us for beach chairs and blankets to keep you warm!
Catch a movie in our historic cinema…
It may be a bit of a cliché, but catching a movie is often the perfect answer to a romantic night out. If you’ve had enough of the cold, warm your cockles and head to Aldeburgh’s beautifully quaint, historic cinema. Situated at the back of a 19th century high street store, Aldeburgh Cinema has been screening films since 1919 with many of its original features including magnificent art deco lights still in place to day. Screening a mix of indie and blockbuster movies, the cinema caters for a wide range of interests with something for everyone. You’ll do very well to find a more romantic venue to watch a movie this Valentine’s Day.
