Your guide to the festivals in and around Aldeburgh

If you are planning on visiting and staying with us during festival season, it’s also advisable to book early as we fill up very quickly festival goers. 
 

FOR MUSIC LOVERS


If you’re a fan of live music there is plenty for you to choose from with multiple festivals taking place… 
 

Aldeburgh Music Festival
Date: Friday 8th – Sunday 24th June 
Venue: Snape Maltings
Distance from hotel: 15 minute drive 

Aldeburgh Festival 2018 celebrates Britten and America. This year’s artists and ensembles include Patricia Kopatchinskaja, John Wilson, Claire Chase, Sir Bryn Terfel, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, The Sixteen, Tamara Stefanovich, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Le Concert Spirituel, John Wilson Orchestra, Alina Ibragimova, BBC Symphony Orchestra, plus many more.

With so much distinctive programming, this line-up of concerts, exhibitions, talks, films, walks and events at The Pumphouse and much-loved Bandstand on the Beach, just a short walk from the hotel.

Snape Proms
Date: August 
Venue: Snape Maltings
Distance: 15 minute drive

Artists from around the world will flock to Snape for 30 incredible events. Whether you’re a fan of folk, roots, jazz, or classical music; there will be a big band, orchestra, group or artist to interest you.

The line-up for this will be announced in April, so watch this space. 
 

Jimmy’s Festival
Date: Saturday 21st – Sunday 22 July
Venue: Jimmy’s Farm
Distance: 50 minute drive

An annual celebration of great live music, delicious food and wholesome family fun. Happy Mondays will be headlining alongside other new and upcoming acts in the music industry.

There is also a Kids Zone which will be full of activities for all ages and top chefs will be cooking up a storm in the Cookhouse, where you can fill up on some of Britain’s best street food.

Latitude
Date: Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th July 
Venue: Henham Park, Southwold
Distance: 30 minute drive

Latitude is one of the bigger festivals held in our area, attracting people from all over the country. It’s not just music you can enjoy at Latitude; you can also catch some theatre, poetry, and comedy - and with a kids area and inbetweeners area (for over 12’s), there’s plenty to entertain all the family.

You can of course camp for the weekend at Henham Park, but if you prefer to sleep in a comfy bed with facilities and breakfast on hand, we would love to welcome you to our hotel.

FOR THEATRE AND LITERARY LOVERS

HighTide Festival
Date: 12th -17th September
Venue: local

HighTide Festival is an annual festival of new plays on the gorgeous Suffolk Coast. HighTide will be presenting world premieres of new work by exciting voices in theatre, surrounded by a programme of talks with world-class artists, play readings, comedy, visiting artists, site specific events and much more.
 

Aldeburgh Literary Festival
Date: Thursday 1st - Sunday 4th March
Venue: Jubilee Hall, Aldeburgh
Distance: Local

The Aldeburgh Literary Festival was started in 2002 by the John and Mary James of The Aldeburgh Bookshop. It features an extraordinary variety of talks, from the local to the global, the serious to the hilarious, the scientific to the philosophical.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT


It’s not all about music in Aldeburgh, there’s plenty of other festivals taking place to keep you entertained, plus our amazing Aldeburgh Carnival which is not to be missed!
 

East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival
Date: Saturday 11th August 
Venue: Oulton Broad, Lowestoft
Distance: 50 minute drive

A great day out for all the family; if you’re staying in Aldeburgh over this weekend, it’s worth heading to Oulton Broad to watch as around 40 teams battle it out over the 200m race course.

As well as the colourful and exciting races, a wide range of continuous bankside entertainment including funfair, inflatable games, children’s activities, food stalls and bar guarantee a fabulous day for all the family!

Maverick Festival
Date: 30th June – 2nd July 2017
Venue: Easton Farm Park
Distance: 30 minute drive

Known as the UK’s first and finest Americana Festival, Maverick Festival will feature more than 40 artists across five stages (indoors and out), food and drink stands, film and workshops.

Don't expect any big pop names here, it's very much a scene-focused exploration of some of the finest names in the Americana field.

Folk East
Date: 18th – 20th August
Venue: Glenham Hall
Distance: 15 minute drive

Although, technically a music festival, Folk East is often described as more of an English village fete and has so much to offer its visitors. 

As well as its six stages showcasing live local and national artists, there is also an instrument makers’ festival, the FolkEast Art Arcade, donkey rides, children’s activities, yoga, poetry, storytelling, horse drawn carriage rides and tours of Glemham Hall. There will also be a dance venue and numerous workshops covering song, instruments, writing, art and heritage crafts.

If you’re a food and drink lover, then the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival is for you. Celebrating Suffolk’s thriving food and drink scene, over 90 food and drink producers gather to sell their produce and delicious street food.
